Footsteps in the Forest

Journey into a mystical world this summer beneath the branches of Slieve Gullion Forest Park. Footsteps in the Forest sees fairies, nymphs, dryads and giants emerge from hiding to frolic with us mortals. Get involved in story-telling, arts, food and musical performances. Loads of fun for the kids and a great way to get in touch with the deep heritage of this special place. Winner of the 2016 Heritage Council ‘Cool for Kids’ category.

Festival of Flight

The raw power of manned flight will boom over Newcastle’s strand this summer as the Festival of Flight returns for another adrenaline-fuelled year. Witness heart-stopping aerial displays featuring elite pilots flying iconic aircraft. Drop into the cockpit of an RAF fighter and imagine yourself pummelled by the g-forces of a dogfight. Join the crowds as the classic motorcycle rally rolls through town. There’ll also be food, drink and music aplenty. A day of fun and wonder for the whole family.

Strangford Lough

Skiffie Festival

Join in a fun weekend of local food, traditional music and action-packed competition at the annual Skiffie Festival. These traditional wooden row boats fly through the water under the power of experienced oarsmen and women. Skiff clubs who build and race these craft will gather from all over Ireland and the UK to pit their vessels against each other. Don’t miss this unique and exciting day.

Wake the Giant Festival

Join a celebration like no other in Warrenpoint. The stories of Fionn Mac Cumhaill are woven deep into the history of this region – from his travails on Slieve Gullion to his battles with rival giants. Each year, the people of Warrenpoint re-enact these epic tales in a collaborative performance. Join in as they attempt to wake the giant in time for him to fight the evil witch, Cailleach Beara.
